Exploring Paris: A Local’s Guide to My Favorite Stops

As everyone knows, I love visiting my hometown of Paris and I am always torn on where I should adventure to first. Paris is so full of interesting eateries, restaurants, and culture. Here are a few of my favorites in no particular order that I will update as I collect more must visit locations.

Local Cuisine

Eat like a local in the 16th arrondissement where I grew up and dine at Le Scossa. Located on the prestigious Place Victor Hugo, you can enjoy the charming outdoor seating with its spacious terrace, and elegant decor, and savor the delicious dishes - you can't go wrong with this hidden gem.

Bakery Delights

Stop by La Pompadour and indulge in their crispy Pain au Raisin or other bakery delights to experience one of the oldest bakeries in the city, located in the 16th arrondissement between rue de la Tour and rue de La Pompe. Be sure to get there early to enjoy the warm and inviting atmosphere and their spacious terrace.

Literary Havens

Immerse yourself in the literary world of Paris by visiting the iconic Shakespeare and Company bookstore. Nestled in the vibrant St Germain district, this charming independent bookshop offers a delightful selection of English-language books. Situated along the Seine River, opposite Notre-Dame, it has been a beloved meeting spot for writers and readers alike for over seventy years.

Creative Havens

Unforgettable Cafes

For a truly unforgettable experience in Paris, make sure to visit the new Louis Vuitton Cafe located next to the stunning Cheval Blanc hotel.

Indulge in delicious cocktails while enjoying a breathtaking view of the city.

The Iconic Hermès Store

Discover the most beautiful of them all, the Hermès store in the 6th Arrondissement, a true gem in Paris.

Housed in a former swimming pool, this unique location near Le Bon Marche on 17 rue de Sevres is like stepping into a museum. The preserved tiled walls and original architectural elements make it an unforgettable experience for any visitor. It’s truly unbelievable.

Best Chocolates in Paris

Indulge in the ultimate chocolate experience in Paris by visiting my favorite chocolatier, Patrick Roger. Among the many options in the city, Patrick Roger stands out as one of the best. Treat yourself to a beautiful tray of chocolates to take home - you can't go wrong with this delicious souvenir from Paris!

Make a Statement

Rue Cherche-Midi is one of my favorite spots in Paris to explore.

Make sure to visit Maison Ernest for a unique selection of creative and unusual shoes that will surely make a statement.

Favorite Treats in Paris

Indulge in a decadent apple turnover or some punitions (shortbreads) at Poilane, a favorite treat to enjoy in Paris.

French Culinary Delights

Indulge in an epic French dining experience at Chez Josephine, where you can savor a wide selection of traditional fares. Don't miss out on their exquisite Souffle Grand Marnier, a must-try dessert that will delight your taste buds.

A Walk in the Park

Parc Monceau is a delightful spot for leisurely strolls and people-watching in Paris. And who knows, you might even consider trying out a donkey ride - maybe?

Unique Dining Experience

Who says you can’t enjoy an amazing meal in a department store? Indulge in a unique dining experience at Le Printemps where you can savor a delicious crêpe Bretonne paired with a refreshing cold cider from Malo Artisan. A must-try when in Paris!

Hidden Gems

One of my favorite things to do in Paris is exploring the lesser-known museums that are worth the detour. Don't miss a visit to the old Opera Garnier to see the infamous Chagall ceilings before they come down. I hope they find a place for them!

Other must-visit museums include the Rodin Museum, Carnavalet, Le Petit Palais, and L’Orangerie.

The Magic of Paris

Discover the magic of Paris at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (MAD) where an incredible exhibit awaits you. The Iris Van Harper collection is nothing short of brilliant, breathtaking, and mesmerizing - it was my favorite thing I saw in Paris this year. From furniture to tableware, design to fashion, this exhibit showcases a wide array of art forms that will captivate your senses.
